New Nikon Coolpix Touch S80 and Zoom S8100 Nikon introduces the Coolpix S80, a stylish digital camera equipped with a 14.1 Mp CCD sensor, a 5x Wide-Angle optical zoom lens and a bright 3.5-inch high resolution (819,000-dot) organic LED (OLED) touch screen. The Coolpix S80 will be available in the fall for $329.95 in the colors red, black, blue, pink, gold and silver/brown. Nikon also introduces the high speed (10 fps) Coolpix S8100 equipped with a 12.1 Mp backside illumination CMOS sensor and a 10x optical zoom lens. Samsung announces two BSI CMOS image sensors Samsung announces two new 1.4 micron CMOS imagers, adopting back side illuminated (BSI) pixel technology, each imager is optimized for smartphones resp. digital still and video cameras. In contrast to conventional front side illumination, backside illumination collects photons from the backside of the pixel and offers better performance in low light scenarios. Samsung had previously equipped their TL350 / WB2000 digital cameras and their recently announced S-Series camcorders with such BSI image sensors...
Sanyo releases HD Xacti PD1 in pocket format Sanyo Europe releases the new Xacti PD1 Full HD, 1920 x 1080 30p, Dual Camera, released last month as Xacti PD2 for the US market. The PD1 offers Full HD video recording, 10 megapixel photo shooting, and 3x optical zoom in a stylish form factor that is about the size of a deck of cards. The pocket-sized PD1 features Stereo Sound Recording and a Mini-HDMI port. The camera will be available in September with an MSRP of 169 Euros, a reasonable price though the US gets a better deal as the camera sells there for 169 dollars...

Toshiba/Panasonic introduce fastest SDHC-cards Toshiba and Panasonic have both announced the new SDHC UHS-I memory cards, to date the world's first memory cards compliant with SD 3.0, with a maximum read speed of 95MB per second, and a write speed of 80MB per second. The new memory cards will be available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB versions and will be featured at the IFA and PHOTOKINA show.
